OSHA Health Standards Director
The position reviews federal OSHA standards and policy documents, and writes and reviews policy documents, publications, and training materials. The position answers inquiries from the public and OSH employees and provides interpretations on OSH standards by phone and in writing. The position is also involved in state-specific rulemaking and variance requests. The position provides training (in person and online) to internal staff, employers and employees across the state. The position may be assigned to represent the agency on statewide committees seeking OSH expertise.
Candidates must possess considerable knowledge of industrial hygiene and possess a broad understanding of good safety and health practices and procedures including: the Occupational Safety and Health Act, OSHA standards, regulatory guidance documents and MI state-specific standards. The OSHA Health Standards Officer is expected to also have knowledge of safety standards to be able to provide some safety standards interpretations. Candidates must possess skills in research and policy analysis as well as strong technical writing and training skills. Candidates must have strong time management and communication skills (verbal and written), be able to multi-task and prioritize projects, and have good problem solving skills. Candidates must also be self-motivated, detail oriented, organized and able to complete tasks/projects within established time frames.
- Master’s degree in industrial hygiene with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, chemistry, environmental health, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in the field of cannabis cultivation hygiene;
- OR Bachelor s degree in agriculture, chemistry, environmental health, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in the field of cannabis cultivation hygiene.
