The Director of Extraction performs extraction techniques on marijuana plant products to be used for dosing medical cannabis products. The Director of Extraction works as part of a quality team.
The Director of Extraction reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for managing and overseeing all extractions utilizing butane and ethanol hydrocarbon extractions. The Director ensures the quality of all products. The Director of Extraction is responsible for coordinating internal medical cannabis testing during the curing phase, hydrocarbon oil production phase, dosing phase and retention samples.
Skills and Qualifications
Ph.D. Level required;
Graduate in Analytical Chemistry;
Hands-on experience in liquid separation chromatography with mass spectrometry;
Experience operating and interpreting data from other analytical;
Mass spectrometry experience required; and
5 years’ experience troubleshoot equipment and repairs such as liquid chromatography systems, pumps, microscopes, balances, centrifuges, and other
laboratory equipment.
The Director of Extraction possess analytical expertise in High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry methods, which includes: operational and troubleshooting skills, knowledge of Quality Control/Quality Assurance procedures, pipetting techniques, data analysis/reporting, and laboratory management. Having experience with extraction equipment, including CO2 supercritical machines, hydrocarbon extractors, solvent evaporators, and fractional distillation equipment is required.
Responsibilities and Expectations Produce cannabis-based medicine; Effective test and perform analytical tests Operate and maintain lab equipment used in the production of cannabis-based medicine; Continually improve standard operating procedures; Complete quality assurance activities on completed products; Manage recalls and proper store of retention samples Interact with software vital to production processes Keep organized digital and notebook records of laboratory processes and result Preparing equipment and plant materials for extraction Processing concentrates and extracts; Maintaining strict inventory records of all plant materials, chemicals and equipment used in the laboratory; Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment, and preparing requisitions as needed; Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste per state-approved methods guidelines; Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, filing, and answering telephone inquiries; and Maintains material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
